2016 NCAA DIII XC Region Athletes & Coaches of the Year

NEW ORLEANS — Region Athletes and Coaches of the Year for the 2016 NCAA Division III Cross Country season were announced Tuesday by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), as voted on by the division’s coaches.

Award History: Athlete | Coach

The 2016 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships will take place Saturday, November 19 at E.P. "Tom" Sawyer Park in Louisville, Kentucky. The meet will be broadcast LIVE online at NCAA.com.

MEN’S ATHLETE OF THE YEAR

ATLANTIC REGION: ISAAC GARCIA-CASSANI, SUNY GENESEO

Garcia-Cassani, a junior from Holbrook, New York, won the Atlantic Region individual title in 24:15.8. He also won the SUNYAC individual title earlier in the postseason.

CENTRAL REGION: MASON TOPE, LORAS

Tope, junior from Davenport, Iowa, won the Central Region individual title in 25:16.3. He finished 6th at the Iowa Conference Championships earlier in the postseason.

GREAT LAKES REGION: DAN CHEUNG, ALLEGHENY (PA.)

Cheung, a senior from Northbrook, Illinois, won the Great Lakes Region individual title in 24:44.4. He won the NCAC individual title earlier in the postseason.

MIDEAST REGION: ERNIE PITONE, WIDENER

Pitone, a senior from Springfield, Pennsylvania, won the Mideast Region individual title in 24:52.0. He also won the Middle Atlantic Conference crown earlier in the postseason.

MIDWEST REGION: IAN LAMERE, UW-PLATTEVILLE

LaMere, a senior from Green Bay, Wisconsin, won the Midwest Region individual title in 24:01.1. He also captured the WIAC individual title earlier in the postseason.

NEW ENGLAND REGION: TIM NICHOLS, TUFTS

Nichols, a senior from North Lima, Ohio, won the New England Region individual title in 23:54.6. He won the NESCAC individual title earlier in the postseason.

SOUTH/SOUTHEAST REGION: GRAYSON REID, CHRISTOPHER NEWPORT

Reid, a junior from Glen Allen, Virginia, won the South/Southeast Region individual title in 25:02.9. He also captured the CAC individual title earlier in the postseason.

WEST REGION: BRAD HODKINSON, PACIFIC LUTHERAN

Hodkinson, a sophomore from Snohomish, Washington, won the West Region individual title in 25:40.4. He also won the NCC individual title earlier this postseason.

WOMEN’S ATHLETE OF THE YEAR

ATLANTIC REGION: AMY REGAN, STEVENS INSTITUTE

Stevens, a senior from Green Brook, New Jersey, won the Atlantic Region individual title in 20:05.1. She also won the Empire 8 individual title earlier this postseason.

CENTRAL REGION: AUDREY MILLER, LORAS

Miller, a sophomore from Appleton, Wisconsin, won the Central Region individual title in 21:19.9. She also won the Iowa Conference individual title earlier in the postseason.

GREAT LAKES REGION: ERIN HERRMANN, HOPE

Herrmann, a senior from Wheaton, Illinois, won the Great Lakes Region individual title in 21:10.9. She also won the MIAA individual title earlier in the postseason.

MIDEAST REGION: FELICIA KOERNER, JOHNS HOPKINS

Koerner, a sophomore from Munich, Germany, won the Mideast Region individual title in 21:11.7. She won the Centennial League individual title earlier in the postseason.

MIDWEST REGION: KHIA KURTENBACH, CHICAGO

Kurtenbach, a junior from Germantown, Wisconsin, won the Midwest Region individual title in 21:41.3. She finished 2nd at the UAA Championships earlier this postseason.

NEW ENGLAND REGION: BRITTANY BOWMAN, TUFTS

Bowman, a junior from Camden, Maine, won the New England Region individual title in 21:14.3. She placed 7th at the NESCAC Championships earlier in the postseason.

SOUTH/SOUTHEAST REGION: SERENA GALE-BUTTO, CENTRE

Gale-Butto, a senior from Muskegon, Michigan, won the South/Southeast Region individual title in 21:51.8. She also won the SAA individual title earlier this postseason.

WEST REGION: MAYA WEIGEL, POMONA-PITZER

Weigel, a senior from Los Altos, California, won the West Region individual title in 21:33.8. She also won the SCIAC individual title earlier in the postseason.

MEN’S COACH OF THE YEAR

ATLANTIC REGION: DAN MOORE, SUNY GENESEO

Moore, in his 2nd season as head coach of the Knights, led his team to the Atlantic Region title with 51 points. SUNY Geneseo also won the SUNYAC title in the postseason.

CENTRAL REGION: BOB SCHULTZ, LORAS

Schultz, in his 12th season as head coach of the Duhawks, led them to a Central Region title with 101 points. His team also won the Iowa Conference title two weeks earlier.

GREAT LAKES REGION: BRIAN DIEMER, CALVIN

Diemer, in his 32nd season as head coach of the Knights, led them to the Great Lakes Region title with 63 points. His team also won the MIAA title earlier in the postseason.

MIDEAST REGION: BOBBY VAN ALLEN, JOHNS HOPKINS

Van Allen, in his 18th season as head coach of the Blue Jays, led his team to a Mideast Region title with 64 points. His team placed 2nd at the Centennial Conference meet.

MIDWEST REGION: AL CARIUS, NORTH CENTRAL (ILL.)

Carius, in his 51st season as head coach of the Cardinals, led them to a Midwest Region title with 37 points. His team also won the CCIW title earlier in the postseason.

NEW ENGLAND REGION: HALSTON TAYLOR, MIT

Taylor, in his 35th season as head coach of the Engineers, led them to a New England Region title with 110 points. His team also won the NEWMAC title two weeks earlier.

SOUTH/SOUTHEAST REGION: MATTHEW BARREAU, CHRISTOPHER NEWPORT

Barreau, in his 6th season as head coach of the Captains, led them to a South/Southeast Region title with 52 points. His team also won the CAC title earlier in the postseason.

WEST REGION: JOHN GOLDHAMMER, CLAREMONT-MUDD-SCRIPPS

Goldhammer, in his 33rd season as head coach of the Stags, led them to a West Region title with 43 points. His team also won the SCIAC title earlier in the postseason.

WOMEN’S COACH OF THE YEAR

ATLANTIC REGION: DAN MOORE, SUNY GENESEO

Moore, in his 2nd season as head coach of the Knights, led his team to the Atlantic Region title with 90 points. His team also won the SUNYAC title earlier this postseason.

CENTRAL REGION: CHRIS DAYMONT, ST. OLAF

Daymont, in her 35th season as head coach of the Oles, led her team to the Central Region title with 91 points. Her team placed 3rd at the MIAC Championships.

GREAT LAKES REGION: BRIAN DIEMER, CALVIN

Diemer, in his 32nd season as head coach of the Knights, led his team to a Great Lakes Region title with 90 points. His team placed 2nd at the MIAA Championships earlier.

MIDEAST REGION: BOBBY VAN ALLEN, JOHNS HOPKINS

Van Allen, in his 18th season as head coach of the Blue Jays, led his team to a Mideast Region title with 38 points. His team also won the Centennial Conference title.

MIDWEST REGION: JEFF STILES, WASHINGTON (MO.)

Stiles, in his 16th season as head coach of the Bears, led his team to a Midwest Region title with 66 points. His team also won the UAA Championships earlier this postseason.

NEW ENGLAND REGION: HALSTON TAYLOR, MIT

Taylor, in his 35th season as head coach of the Engineers, led them to a New England Region title with 68 points. His team also won the NEWMAC title two weeks earlier.

SOUTH/SOUTHEAST REGION: JOHN CURTIN, EMORY

Curtin, in his 31st season as head coach of the Eagles, led his team to a South/Southeast Region title with 68 points. His team also placed 3rd at the UAA Championships.

WEST REGION: TOBY SCHWARZ, WHITWORTH

Schwarz, in his 19th season as head coach of the Pirates, led his team to a West Region title with 81 points. His team also won the Northwest Conference title this poseason.
